[11-13-23] One Ejected in Rollover Crash on Lake Avenue

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — One person was hospitalized with serious injuries after being thrown from a car during a crash on Lake Avenue at Highway 115 on Friday, Nov. 10.

Emergency crews responded shortly after 4 p.m. to a reported rollover crash at Highway 115 and Lake Avenue. According to CSPD, reports stated that someone in one of the cars had been ejected.

Medical and police units arrived on scene, and found that one of the drivers had been thrown from their car. The investigation revealed that a driver was heading westbound on Lake Avenue and was trying to make a left turn onto Highway 115 when it collided with a car heading eastbound on Lake.

According to CSPD, the eastbound driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car. Both drivers were taken to the hospital, and the ejected driver suffered serious injuries.

The eastbound lanes of Lake Avenue were immediately shut down, followed by the southbound lanes of Highway 115 as CSFD hazmat crews responded to a chemical spill resulting from the crash.

Highway 115 fully reopened about 45 minutes later, but the eastbound lanes of Lake Avenue didn’t reopen until nearly three hours later, around 7 p.m., according to CSPD.

Highway 115/Nevada Avenue has reopened following an earlier crash on Lake Avenue, according to CSPD . Eastbound Lake Avenue and associated ramps remain blocked while crews work in the area.

Multiple closures are in effect on Highway 115 and Lake Avenue due to a crash, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) and Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSFD posted about the crash just before 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, with accompanying photos showing at least two trucks involved in the crash.

CSFD said eastbound Lake Avenue is closed, and southbound Hwy 115/Nevada Avenue is also closed at the interchange, according to CSPD. Travelers in the area are encouraged to use alternate routes.
